St Julian's School is a non-profit co-educational private school, founded in 1932. St Julian's is the oldest and largest British International School in Portugal and is today a leading International School with a long history of success, academics and a full program of extracurricular activities, including arts and sports.
Located in a fantastic location, in Carcavelos, between Lisbon and Cascais, surrounded by green areas, next to the sea and the beach, St Julian's offers 2 types of teaching: Portuguese (Bilingual) and International. On the school campus there are several outdoor sports fields, where students can practice different sports, including football and rugby.
St Julian's has an excellent academic reputation in Portugal and abroad, and is responsible for teaching more than 1,200 students, from 45 different nationalities, aged between 3 and 18 years old, which earned it the title of "mini United Nations "!
St Julian's was the first school in Portugal (in 1998) to be authorized to hold International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges ( NEASC). With this diploma, its students will find it easier to open the doors of the best Universities in the world.
From Nursery (ages 3 and up) to Grade 11 (ages 16 and up), St Julian's models the curricula currently assigned to schools in England by the UK Department of Education.
The Early Years Foundation Internship (EYFS) covers the two nursery and reception years, aged between 3 and 5 years. Thereafter, students progress through the core stages of the curriculum.
The Secondary School tries to nurture in each student a sense of self-confidence and happiness: students are encouraged to speak for themselves and relationships between teachers and students are lively, engaging and stimulating.
At the end of Key Four Stage, students take a series of public examinations (GCSE and IGCSEs) in a combination of 'core' and 'elective' subjects. These are the tests taken by thousands of students of the same age in the UK and the rest of the English-speaking world at the end of their compulsory secondary education.
After age 16, St Julian's prepares students for university by offering courses leading to an International Baccalaureate Diploma. Admission to the Diploma course is the only point at which the School is selective in its admission policy. St Julian's consistently achieves extraordinary results. This success can be attributed to factors such as the strength, talent and hard work of our students and the immense dedication and care of our teachers.
