Alcântara

The Bairro de Alcântara, located in the parish with the same name, originating from the Arabic word "al-qantara", which means "bridge", owes this designation to the bridge formerly located over the stream, later called Ribeira de Alcântara.

Its location is easy to find thanks to the 25 de Abril bridge that rises in this neighborhood and crosses the skies to the other side of the river, marking its horizon. It belongs to the West Zone of the capital, with an area of 5.07 km² and 13,850 inhabitants (2021).

It is one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in Lisbon thanks to its proximity to the Tagus River and the nightlife of its bars and clubs located by the riverside. It has always been linked to maritime activity, but its warehouses, which once supported fishing and customs activities, have been converted into leisure and co-working spaces.

The docks of Santo Amaro and its numerous warehouses, now renovated and converted, give life to the neighborhood's nightlife, hosting several bars, clubs, restaurants, boutiques and art spaces. The extensive space designated by LxFactory is famous for offering all of this, right in the heart of Alcântara.

The Museu do Oriente, which exhibits Asian and Portuguese art, the Museu da Carris, a space with 2000 m2 where you can see the famous trams that still cross its streets today, the Atelier of the world famous artist Joana Vasconcelos, the urban art present a little throughout the neighborhood, are examples of the dynamism of art and culture that make this neighborhood famous.

With regard to the real estate market, it has been growing in terms of the supply of new construction and renovation of properties, largely thanks to demand from international buyers. In the last 3 years, new developments have emerged, both small and large, which have contributed to raising the sale prices of apartments in Alcântara, with emphasis on the projects: Residences at Hyatt Regency Lisboa, Rivart, etc.
