Adding this section to the almost four kilometers of Paseo MarÃtimo that connect Oeiras to Paço de Arcos, the municipality now offers a total of 5,840 meters of Paseo MarÃtimo.
It should be noted that the objective of the Municipality will be to provide a Promenade for the entire riverside area of the municipality, given that the requalification of the coastline must be understood as a whole.
Not being, naturally, possible to requalify it in one go in all its extension, the projects have been developed in several levels of intervention operability so that, according to diverse opportunities or possible investments to channel, can be implemented quickly.
In this way, it is intended to gradually revalue the relationship between Oeiras and the Tagus, recovering the environment and the landscape
Thus, in an attempt to return the river to the population, urban intervention projects have been developed, in stages, framed in principles of sustainability, respecting the environment and the specificities of the place where they are located.
In this way, it is intended to gradually revalue the relationship between Oeiras and the Tagus, recovering the environment and the landscape, reconverting the uses of the coastal area, ensuring the integration of this space into the fabric of the 'city', linking it to water through of pedestrian routes.
The success of the previously built sections of Passeio MarÃtimo led to the consideration of a suitable and viable study of a layout with a cycle path. The main objective of this intervention, by the company WW – Consultores de Hidráulica MarÃtima SA, was the construction of a pedestrian and clickable walkway that would allow the population to continue enjoying the waterfront, with quality.
In addition, the installation, along the entire length of the Passeio MarÃtimo, of urban equipment and technical infrastructure was planned.
This intervention also included the preservation of some traces found from the Fort of Nossa Senhora do Vale, also known as Fort of Caxias, which although very incomplete and almost completely destroyed – by the construction of the Marginal and then until the present day by the maritime agitation – constitute traces of a past that comes to the present, thus maintaining these elements in the so-called Panoramic Platform.
The interventions carried out did not introduce alterations in the existing morphodynamic regime, given that the works maintained the existing front defense in rockfill slope and preserved the alignments of the marginal front.
It should be recalled that the construction work for this phase of the Passeio MarÃtimo began in November 2015 and cost €2,653,474.81 (value including VAT).
The riverfront of Oeiras is one of the most used leisure spaces in the municipality, a center of leisure, recreation and sports activities, benefiting from a unique natural landscape.
The pedestrian walkway that runs along the axis between the Fort of São Julião da Barra and Praia de Paço de Arcos, with about 4 km of signposted lanes, offers numerous reasons for a visit...
It starts at the Fort of São Julião da Barra, next to Praia da Torre, and continues to the Oceanic Pool. It then goes around Fort Catalazete and continues to Forte das Maias, at the east of Praia de Santo Amaro.
Along the promenade we find terraces and beach restaurants, where you can enjoy the beautiful view over Foz do Tejo and the Atlantic Ocean.
At the beginning, the tour also passes by Porto de Recreio de Oeiras - a place of leisure par excellence, with its shops and restaurants - and ends at Praia de Paço de Arcos.
Its construction also included the installation of equipment and urban furniture and technical infrastructure along the entire length of the promenade.
