Leceia

Leceia is a small town belonging to the parish of Barcarena, located in one of the highest points of Oeiras, with an excellent view over the valley of the Barcarena stream, the rest of the municipality and the sea.

Known for its history, Castro de Leceia , which dates back to the Neolithic period 5000 years ago, at that time constituted a village whose economy based on agricultural and pastoral activity was successful for about 1000 years and then abandoned.

Today, Leceia, is a place whose urban design is fundamentally made up of houses, and recently new subdivisions were born, with others already licensed, for construction in the so-called Leceia de Cima.

Points of interest:

• Castro Eneolítico de Leceia - Discovered in 1878, it is one of the most important archaeological sites in Portugal and Europe.Many of the objects discovered there are on display at Fábrica da Pólvora [ see ].
• Church of Nossa Senhora da Piedade - Built in 1761, this small church, almost a chapel, is covered with tiles with religious motifs and is dedicated to the Lord Jesus of Poverty and Our Lady of Piety [ see ].
• Visconde de Leceia Basic School - Public school that teaches the 1st cycle of basic education. Has ATL;
• Oeiras International School - Located in Barcarena, but only 1 km from Leceia, is the international private school that teaches the 1st cycle.In the vicinity there is another space of the OIS with the remaining schooling cycles [ see ].
