Marvila

Marvila is a parish belonging to the East Zone of Lisbon, with an area of 7.12 km² and 35,463 inhabitants. It is one of the most typical districts of Lisbon, once populated by manor houses, farms and vegetable gardens, taking advantage of the fertility of its lands bathed by the Tagus River. The Marquês de Abrantes Palace, on Rua de Marvila, or the Mitra Palace, are examples of a rural past that still survive.

From the 19th century onwards, Marvila began the transition to an urban area, with several residential and manufacturing districts, many of them linked to port and industrial activity. From Rua do Açúcar to Braço de Prata, some of these factories are still visible today, many of them deactivated or converted.

Marvila is now a space in the process of being renovated, welcoming new residential apartment developments, among which the Prata Riverside Village and Parque das Nações stand out. The latter originated in the great event that was Expo 98, which took place in a space once occupied by deactivated manufacturing units.

Prata Riverside Village is a premium residential development, still under construction and commercialization, consisting of several buildings with apartments from T0 to T3 typologies, of which some still remain to be sold. Contact me if you want more information.

Marvila is the only part of the city undergoing rapid renewal without tourism as its driving force. Between Beato and Matinha, next to the Tagus river, old abandoned warehouses are now coworking spaces where you can also skate. There are craft breweries in every corner of the neighborhood, concert halls that hold a thousand people, and spacious art galleries.

Marvila has some points of interest to highlight:

  • Marvila Monastery - Monument of a religious nature
  • Mitra Palace, Quinta dos Alfinetes Palace, Shipowner's Palace and Marialvas Palace
  • Portal and galilee of the Church of Chelas
  • old convent ofSaint Felix and Saint Adrião
  • Chapel of the Asilo dos Velhos
  • Chapel of the Mansion of Santa Maria de Marvila
  • Chapel of the Former Convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição
  • Parish Church of Saint Augustine in Marvila
  • ISEL - Higher Institute of Engineering of Lisbon
  • Urban Park of Vale Fundão
  • Clube Oriental de Lisboa (football and swimming)
